Mayor Brian Gibson congratulating Tom O’Reilly on his appointment as CEO of Gannawarra Shire Council.

GANNAWARRA Shire Council has appointed Tom O’Reilly as its new chief executive.

Mr O’Reilly has been the acting chief executive since Eric Braslis’ resignation earlier this month and was council’s corporate services director prior to that.

Mayor Brian Gibson said the appointment follows an extensive recruitment process that included a highly competitive field of candidates.

“Mr O’Reilly impressed us with his energy, enthusiasm, qualifications and experience,’’ he said. “We are delighted he has agreed to take up the role and believe that under his guidance the organisation will be well placed to support councillors to achieve agreed outcomes for the community.’’

Mr O’Reilly, who began on December 22, said he is looking forward to the opportunities and challenges of managing the large and diverse organisation.

“I understand the area and am passionate about the future of Gannawarra,’’ he said.

‘‘I enjoy the people and the community I work with and see so many strengths in the region and the shire that we can build upon.

“I am very committed to this role and on delivering on the council plan which was endorsed earlier this year, so I look forward to really building on the ambitions and goals of the council over the coming years.’’
